Excess Proteins Decrease Brain Size

It appears that a diet rich in proteins can decrease brain size.

According to the journal Molecular Neurodegeneration, a team of researchers made a surprising discovery about the brain.

During a study to establish a link between diet and Alzheimer’s disease in mice, researchers discovered an anomaly. They found that mice fed with a high protein, low carbohydrate diet had a 5% smaller brain size compared to other mice. In addition, they observed atropy in the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for learning and memory.

This study was performed in mice, so the results should be viewed with caution. The next step would be to evaluate the effects of excess proteins on the human brain.

However, these preliminary results are interesting and open a new avenue for studies on the human brain.
