Fewer overweight children in France

Government programs are showing results in France.

The French Minister of Health and Sports is directing a program between 2005 and 2010 to better inform consumers and lead to more healthy choices. This is a desperate attempt to reign in cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and obesity, a scourge that affects all developed countries.

Now, the ministry announced a decline in overweight children. Indeed, the rate decreased from 18% to 16% between 2000 and 2007.

Experts are happy that more adults are eating five fruits and vegetables a day, a 16% increase to be exact. Eating sugar has decreased by 10%.

This represents a step towards a healthier population, although there is still a long way to go to curb obesity, in particular, which is gaining ground across the globe.
