Filip Mesar gets inspired by watching videos of… Brad Marchand

If there’s one prospect that fans want to see more of in the Canadiens organization, it’s Filip Mesar. The friend of Juraj Slafkovsky, selected in the first round (26th overall) at the 2022 draft – the same as Slaf – hasn’t had a great year since the Canadiens stepped up to the podium to announce his name. Two seasons of 51 and 52 points in the OHL, followed by a tough first campaign (18 points, including four goals in 42 games) in the AHL… that ‘s not crazy for a guy who was picked in the first round.… that’s not crazy for a first-round pick. Mesar is currently attending the Canadiens’ rookie camp, and after today’s practice, he said something interesting to reporters on hand for comment. Basically, the diminutive 5’10, 184-pound forward (according to Hockey DB) says he watches videos of…The Canadiens would like him to be more intense on the ice and to be able to have more emotion in his game.
Filip Mesar just confided that he now watches Brad Marchand videos for inspiration.
The organization told him he had to be more aggressive if he wanted to have a chance up top.

[content-ads] At 21, Filip Mesar still has time to blossom. He still has time to become a regular in the NHL… but I see his next season as the most important of his (young) career. The forward must, after all, prove to the Canadiens that they made a good choice in selecting him in the first round. He must show that he has the talent to help the Habs in the National League at some point… even if it’s in a depth role. Because it’s true, after all: Mesar isn’t the most physical guy on the ice. He stands out for his speed, his ability to create plays… but he also needs to bring more to the table to establish himself as an impact player on the ice. That’s what the Bruins did with Brad Marchand when he arrived in the pros. And today, Marchand is still considered one of the league’s good players – we saw him do it in the playoffs – and we’ve seen just how important he can be to a club. The ball is in Mesar’s court, then.
Friedman on 32TP talking Lukas Reichel’s future: “I think it’s a name that is out there, that name is out there and I think it’s understood that the Blackhawks are willing to make the move if they find a trade partner and I think the player understands it might be time too”
