Fish-skin shoes by Alexander Wang

Yes, but are they slippery?

The Taiwanese-American fashion designer Alexander Wang, 27, unveiled a collection of sneakers with fish skin detailing, reports Elle.

At his new flagship store on Grand Street in New York City, Wang presented his new line of sneakers to fashion editors.

While the result looks more like python skin than fish scales, the stylish retro sneakers have accent colors along the heel and for the laces, but are also available in black patent leather for Wang devotees who prefer the simplicity.

Speaking of fish out of water, Wang is also launching a new collection of swimwear for women. The colorful collection ranged from cherry red to cobalt blue. The remaining resort collection offered a wide variety of textures including chain knit sweaters.

“It’s a first for us,” Wang said. “It’s tapestry yarn, wrapped in nylon and then woven into the chain.”

Earlier this month, the innovative artist was nominated for womenswear designer of the year and accessory designer of the year at the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

In light of his perch-skin shoe detailing, it seems only fitting that he did indeed take home the award for accessory designer of the year.

At age 18, Wang moved from San Francisco to New York to attend Parsons and study fashion design. After dropping out in his sophomore year, he launched his first women’s ready-to-wear collection just four short years ago in 2007.
