Foo Fighters subject of documentary film

Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker chronicles the band’s 16-year history.

In addition to a new album arriving in stores on April 12, the Foo Fighters are also the subject of a documentary directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker James Moll, reports Hit Fix.

Simply titled Foo Fighters , the film will trace the genesis of the group, from their first demo cassette tape 16 years ago to recent studio sessions for the new album.

This retrospective of the band’s career will help fans understand how the band has come full circle, recording their new album in frontman Dave Grohl’s garage on analog tape. However, one is led to understand that Grohl’s garage might be a tad larger than the average homeowner.

James Moll’s documentary will be presented at South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, from March 16 to 20. In 1999, Moll received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for directing The Last Days.

Butch Vig – who last worked with Grohl 20 years ago on Nirvana’s iconic Nevermind album, back when Grohl played drums for the legendary 1990s grunge band – is producing the album.
