Since he’s no longer a shelter in the NHL, Tim Peel has been the talk of the town. Let’s just say he’s not one to mince his words.
A few weeks ago, he confessed to passing on penalties to star players. And earlier this year, allegations of verbal intimidation of young referees surfaced. We’re glad he’s no longer employed…
Since his dismissal in 2021, Peel has been active on X (Twitter). This morning, he made a rather surprising statement. The former official is calling for Claude Julien to take the helm of the Senators, arguing that he never really liked D.J. Smith’s work in the first place.
This should be the new coach of the@SenatorsClaude Julien is a tremendous coach and person. I have never been impressed with the job DJ Smith has done. Too much talent on this https://t.co/LMXfukWd8M not waste another season. #GoSensGo #Sens #hockeytwitter pic.twitter.com/ls5LgUj4mZ

Say what you will about Peel, but he’s still had a front-row seat to Julien’s work at the helm of a team. So he’s not talking through his hat.
Peel maintains that Julien is an excellent coach and a good person. He believes he’s the right man for the job in the national captaincy, where the team is overflowing with talented young players.
Things have been going badly in Ottawa for a few weeks now. There was the Evgenii Dadonov story , Shane Pinto’s suspension and Pierre Dorion’s dismissal… And last night, people went after D.J. Smith. Now that Dorion’s gone, he’s even more out of the game.
When we think of coaches who could replace Smith, the name Patrick Roy (and Bob Hartley for some) automatically comes to mind. Julien’s: a little less so. It’s not the first time he’s been linked with the Sens, but…

Joel Quenneville: the Oilers’ man?
Peel also took advantage of his media reach to make another statement that will not go down well with everyone.
According to him, Joel Quenneville is the right man for the job in Edmonton.
The @EdmontonOilers need this guy as their next coach! #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/533cPq27PP

Has he heard about the 2010 sex scandals in Chicago? I can now put the last sentence in the plural because as my colleague, Charles-Alexis Brisebois, reported this morning, another player has sued the Blackhawks.
The head coach, who was fired by the Florida Panthers due to the Kyle Beach scandal, among other things, is looking less and less likely to return to the big leagues. No Tim, Quenneville is not the Oilers’ man…
The Oilers are 2-7-1 this season, and their coach Donald Trump Jay Woodcroft could be on his last legs in Alberta.
In gusto
– I can’t even imagine.
Damn, I can’t even imagine the absolute backlash if captain Nick Suzuki ever said something similar about Habs fans at the Bell Centre. https://t.co/9xzsOqRcmi

– Nice progress.
I’m very happy with MTL’s d-men performance. Progress is never linear; these kids will have many ups & downs.
Clearly Guhle has taken a major step forward. Barron looks solid.
But maybe Xhekaj has improved his game most. I see a lot of little improvements in his game. https://t.co/SxWsmXlq72
