Four Actors Join The Eagle of the Ninth

Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland and Mark Strong will all star in the film The Eagle of the Ninth.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, all four stars have signed on for the upcoming film.

Under the direction of Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland), the film will be based on the novel written by Rosemary Sutcliff in 1954.

The story takes place in the second century, when the young centurion Marcus Aguila (Tatum) arrives in Rome to solve the mysterious disappearance of the 9th legion in the Scottish Highlands.  He must also restore his father’s reputation, who was the commander of the legion.

Filming is already underway in Hungary, and will soon be moving to Scotland.

Channing Tatum is now starring in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and he will also star in Dear John, opening on February 5, 2010.  Jamie Bell will star in The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, opening on December 23, 2011.  Donald Sutherland provides his voice to General Stone in the animated flick Astro Boy, opening on October 23, and finally Mark Strong will co-star with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Sherlock Holmes, opening on Christmas Day.
