Fourth Narnia film is prequel

Producers veer from published chronology.

Chronicles of Narnia producers, Walden Media, have announced plans are underway for a fourth Narnia film, reports Coming Soon.

However, instead of adapting the next and fourth novel in the series, The Silver Chair, the producers have chosen to adapt the sixth book, The Magician’s Nephew, in the seven-title children’s book series by C.S. Lewis.

The second bestselling book in the series, the story is the prequel to the popular The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe book, and explains the origins of the land of Narnia.

“We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the C.S. Lewis estate now about the ‘Magician’s Nephew’ being our next film," said Michael Flaherty, president of Walden Media. "If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years."

Disney severed its partnership with Walden after the second Narnia film, Prince Caspian, didn’t do well at the box office. Walden went on to produce the third installment, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and after a weak opening gradually surpassed its $155 million cost, going on to earn more than $300 million in foreign markets.

Published between 1950 and 1956, The Chronicles of Narnia books written by C.S. Lewis have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and been translated into 47 languages.
