Potente (Run Lola Run, The Bourne Supremacy) will star in the film under the direction of Marie Ripoll (Tortilla Soup).
With a budget of $11.5 million, Wave will tell the story of a British family who become lost at sea. The family is lost for two weeks, without food or water. Only the mother (played by Potente) survives the incident, and she is then accused of murdering her husband.
The screenplay will be written by Marie-Laure Bertenhlin and Greg Latter, based on a mother’s memoir called Let Me Survive.
Production is set to begin on February 9 in Spain. Wave is expected to reach theatres in spring 2010.
Franka Potente also starred in the film Guerilla, released this year.
