French national rail operations center opens doors to public

SNCF Paris offers free guided tour.

Each year in France, nearly 1 billion passengers using 20,000 trains travel 30,000 km of lines, and the control room of the national center for rail operations plays a crucial role in coordinating these services.

Located in the heart of Paris, the National Society of French Railways (SNCF) is the hub of the national rail network, with nearly 100 employees rotating shifts to monitor operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Although the control room has long remained off limits to the general public, it has recently been opened to the public. Visitors will be able to see the impressive control center that coordinates the network traffic of the station.. They will have access to touch screens that simulate control of trains, emergency precautions, and learn more about information and support for passengers.

A speaker accompanies the tour, which allows operators to work undisturbed. The free tour is about one hour and can accommodate about 20 persons. To find out more, or register online, click here.
