Fresh Express salad mixes carry contamination risk

Fresh Express salad mixes may be contaminated, warns CFIA.

According to Postmedia News, nearly 20 varieties of Romaine-lettuce-based premixed salads from Fresh Express have likely have been contaminated by the bacterium E. coli.

This Wednesday (July 14), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) advised the public to avoid these salads.

The salads in question carry expiration dates
between July 9 and July 12, and have product codes that begin with the letter S.

The manufacturer Fresh Express, based in the United States, has also issued a warning about 18 salads made with romaine lettuce.

In Canada, these salads are sold in Quebec as well as in Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba and Alberta. The CFIA confirms that the salads in question will be removed from store shelves.

Consuming food contaminated with the bacterium E. coli can cause serious illness or death.
