Fundraising push for Jimi Hendrix Park

Park honoring guitarist located next to Seattle’s Northwest African American Museum.

Famous guitarists and singer-songwriter Jimi Hendrix will be honored with a park in his hometown of Seattle, Washington, reports Spinner.

The Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation was established as a non-profit organization to create a park adjacent to the Northwest African American Museum. Potential features of the park include a live music platform and walkways inscribed with his lyrics.

The project still needs to raise the $1.5 million remaining on the estimated $2 million cost to build the park. A recent $20,000 donation from Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s step-sister, and co-manager of his estate, brings the current funding total to $640,640. In a prior legal battle, as  the former trustee, Janie Hendrix was called inept and greedy in the media. Eventually an independent trustee was appointed to oversee the Hendrix estate.

The foundation hopes to raise the full amount in time for what would have been Jimi’s 70th birthday, November 27, 2012. Fans of the guitarist are encouraged to donate at the park website.
