The 46-year-old actor is asking people not to boycott the next Olympic Games in Beijing because it would be an extreme measure.
Clooney, who is in favour of supporting victims in Darfur, insists that boycotting the Olympics is not going to bring peace to the devastated region. He declared, "It seems excessive to boycott the Games because China does business in Darfur, it’s always more important to keep a line of communication open."
Actress Mia Farrow publicly condemned China for supporting the genocide in Darfur. Furthermore, director Steven Spielberg withdrew from his role as artistic director for the Games in Beijing.
Clooney’s involvement in social issues is not affecting his career. The actor will be starring in a new film this year, Burn After Reading, which will be in theatres on September 12.
