George Michael released from prison

Singer released on probation after four weeks behind bars.

Singer George Michael was released from jail yesterday (October 11), after serving four weeks for driving under the influence of cannabis, reported thisislondon.co.uk.

During his trial last September 14, the 47-year-old pop star was sentenced to eight weeks in jail, fined $1,930, and banned from driving for the next five years, after he smashed his vehicle into the front of a London shop last July.

Michael was released on probation from Highpoint Prison in Suffolk, in eastern England, where he told fans earlier this month, he had been treated with great kindness by the employees and fellow inmates.

The self-admitted “terrible driver” has had a string of automotive and drug-related mishaps.

During his stay in prison, Michael said he spent most of his days reading thousands of letters and cards of support from people around the world.

The Grammy award-winner is famous for worldwide hits like Careless Whisper and Faith.
