Gillian Anderson To Play Journalist

Gillian Anderson will star as journalist Martha Gellhorn in an upcoming film.

According to Variety, Gillian Anderson will play the well-known war correspondent, Martha Gellhorn, on the silver screen.

Anderson’s production company, Fiddlehead Productions, has acquired the film rights to the biography, "Gellhorn: A Twentieth-Century Life," written by Caroline Moorehead in 2003.  Anderson will play the lead role in the film, and the screenplay will be written by Sharman Macdonald (The Edge of Love).

Martha Gellhorn covered several conflicts, including the Spanish Civil War and Vietnam.  From 1940 until 1945, she was married to author Ernest Hemingway.  Gellhorn died of cancer on February 16, 1998 at the age of 90.

Filming will begin next year, following the birth of Anderson’s third child.  In the meantime, Anderson will return to her role as Agent Scully in the film The X-Files: I Want to Believe, which hits theatres on July 25.
