Givenchy limited edition Black Box ring

Ricardo Tisci continues annual tradition.

Every year for the past five years, Givenchy creative director Ricardo Tisci offers a mysterious Black Box annual collector’s item from the French fashion house. This year, the object placed in the satin-lined lacquered wooden black box is a beautiful gold ring, reports Vogue France.

The gold sculptural series of rings were designed by Di Wukuan, and only 100 are available in November – each with a number engraved inside. The ring is a cross between sculpture and jewelry, an abstract combination of orchid-shaped organic reminiscent of bone. In commissioning this jewelry, the creative director was inspired by his haute couture collection for autumn-winter 2011-2012.

During his reign as the designer of the label bearing his name, Hubert de Givenchy was known for his modern, ladylike styles, which earned him many loyal clients. The most famous patron of the brand was Audrey Hepburn who wore his fashions in films such as Sabrina and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Upon his retirement in 1995, John Galliano succeeded Hubert de Givenchy, but was in turn promoted to Christian Dior less than two years later, prompting the hiring of Alexander McQueen. In 2001, designer Julien Macdonald took over the post. The reins were ultimately passed on to Riccardo Tisci in 2005 when he was named chief designer of womenswear.
