Glee’s Matthew Morrison to tour solo

Singer starts rehearsals for his solo album after Christmas.

Glee star Matthew Morrison has started work on his own music career, and is gearing up for a solo tour next year.

Fitting rehearsals, recording and touring around his filming schedule might be tight, but the singer plans to get right into rehearsing after Christmas. And instead of joining the rest of the cast on a Glee tour in Europe next year, he’ll be hitting the road solo.

"This is the only time I have off, really, so that’s why we’re kinda getting it in now. When Glee goes on hiatus in April, I’m gonna start doing a big tour," he said in an interview with Extra.

On Glee, Morrison plays glee-club coach and Spanish teacher Will Schuester. Many of the songs that Morrison has performed as Will are available through digital downloads and on the show’s soundtrack albums. Over 13 million Glee songs have been digitally downloaded to date.

No stranger to the stage, Morrison got his start on Broadway, starring as Link Larkin in the musical Hairspray. He was cast in a few small film and television roles, but remained primarily a theatre star prior to Glee. In 2010, he was nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his work on the show.
