Gloria Estefan To Play Connie Francis

Cuban singer Gloria Estefan will play Connie Francis in a biographical film.

The 48 year-old singer will play the singer who was topping the charts in the 50s and 60s with songs like Where the Boys Are and Who’s Sorry Now.

The film will follow the highs and lows of the singer’s life, who is now age 67, and who was the victim of a sexual assault in a hotel room in 1974.

Estefan told the New York Daily News about her upcoming role.  She said, "There’s a lot of similarities, especially in her voice and mine. We had a very similar upbringing. The Italian and the Cuban, all the Latin cultures have a lot of things in common."

Estefan starred in the film Music of the Heart in 1999, along with Meryl Streep and Angela Bassett.
