Gold kilo coins marking Prince George’s christening sell out

Gold kilo coins worth £50,000 each to mark Prince George’s christening have sold out after the Royal Mint produced only 22 – a number chosen to reflect the three-month-old tot’s birthday on July 22.

Gold kilo coins worth £50,000 each made to mark Prince George’s christening have sold out.

The three-month-old royal was baptized on Wednesday (23.10.13) at St James Palace and the Royal Mint commemorated the joyful occasion by producing 22 exclusive coins – a number chosen to reflect the young prince’s birthday, July 22 – and the high demand products sold rapidly.

On the official Royal Mint website, they write: ”Reserved for important occasions – this is only the fourth – Kilo coins contain a whole kilogram of fine gold, and are a real treasure for collectors.

”Only 22 of the exclusive Christening of HRH Prince George of Cambridge 2013 UK Gold Proof Kilo Coins [were] available – the number chosen to reflect the young Prince’s birthday.”

The christening was an intimate ceremony attended by Prince William and Duchess Catherine, a few senior royals, four members of the Middleton family and the prince’s seven godparents and 22 guests.

The Duchess of Cambridge – known as Kate Middleton before she married into the royal family – was delighted George had been so well behaved and previously said: ”He was such a good boy actually. We were very lucky, he’s not always like that.”
