Gorillaz new album drops Christmas Day

Damon Albarn composed new album on the road on his iPad as a Christmas present for fans.

When you wake up Christmas morning your Gorillaz present won’t exactly be under your tree – but you’ll be able to download the new Gorillaz album for free from their website.

Recently, Damon Albarn revealed in an interview with NME that he has been recording the next Gorillaz album on an iPad, and that he hopes to release the album "before Christmas." On December 8th, 2010 Damon Albarn confirmed via an interview that the Gorillaz album recorded on the American leg of the Plastic Beach tour will be released to download for free from the Gorillaz website on Christmas Day, December 25th 2010.

The other mastermind behind Grammy award-winning virtual band, singer Jamie Hewlett, announced their intention to release their iPad creation on Christmas Day: "On Christmas Eve, a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then, on Christmas Day, fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift."

Singer Jamie Hewlett said fans should stay tuned to Gorillaz.com to get their hands on the as-yet-untitled record. "At the moment, we’ve got an advent calendar on our website, and there is a daily door that opens to reveal a gift," said the comic book artist.” The website holiday calendar features daily little Gorillaz gifts like soundcheck excerpts, wallpaper and other surprises.

Albarn revealed he finished a new album on the road, which will be given away free to fans via the Gorillaz website on Christmas Day. "It’s a way of thanking everyone who supported us and it’s a chance to get the music out without all that paraphernalia and process."
