Gorillaz project might be over

Virtual cartoon band rumoured to have split up.

Virtual band project Gorillaz may be over after a falling out between co-creators, musician Damon Albarn and animator Jamie Hewlett, reports U.K. tabloid The People.

According to rumours, things have been tense between the duo for some time, largely because Hewlett felt that Albarn was devoting too much time to other projects, and Albarn was becoming increasingly frustrated with Hewlett’s "party lifestyle".

The band’s 2010 world tour was reportedly "dogged with angry rows" which culminated in a huge argument shortly after their last performance.

While the rumours are unsubstantiated, it might explain the cryptic speech given by Albarn after the final show of their Plastic Beach world tour.

"For us, this is the last time… you know, we all hope and pray on this stage that all the people who work with us, that we will get a chance to work together as a collective again. We may never do that again, so for us, tonight is a very charged moment," he said to fans attending the performance in Auckland, NZ.
