Graco baby bed recall

Graco recalls thousands of drop- side baby cribs because a defect can have very serious consequences.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and LaJobi Inc.are voluntarily recalling drop-side baby cribs by Graco.

The beds are made by LaJobi in China and Vietnam.

The problem is that the parts that hold the drop side can break or have a defect. This may cause the drop side to detach from the bed. If this happens, a young child can fall into the space between the railing and the mattress, thereby exposing him to a risk of suffocation and strangulation. The child may also fall out of bed if the drop side detaches or does not lock.

Graco Canada says there have been no incidents reported across the country. However, one child did die in the United States so the company is recalling all 5,180 beds sold in department stores and independent stores between February 2008 and April 2010.

The recall affects two models:

3000135 Sarah-Espresso drop-side baby crib;
3080136 Hampton-Hickory drop-side baby crib.

The date of manufacture, the item number, the order number and names are shown on a label on the foot or head of the bed. The LaJobi name and bed model are placed on a label affixed to the stabilizer panel or the bed’s interior panel.

Anyone who has one of these beds should stop using it immediately and contact Elfe Children’s Products at www.elfe.net or by telephone at 1-800-667-8184.
