Gregg Allman was laid to rest over the weekend.

Family, friends and fans alike bid farewell to the legendary musician – who was the co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band alongside his late brother Duane – at his funeral this weekend after he passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia on May 27.

Jimmy Carter, Peter Frampton and Gregg’s ex-wife Cher attended the private ceremony at Snow’s Memorial Chapel in Macon whilst his former bandmates – including Jaimoe, Dickey Betts and Derek Trucks – also made an appearance.

His manager and close friend Michael Lehmen delivered an eulogy at the service whilst friend Chank Middleton also spoke during the poignant event.

At the request of the family, the congregation showed up to the service in jeans rather than traditional suits. Fans also lined the route from the Memorial Chapel to the Rose Hill Cemetery to pay their respects to the ‘Midnight Rider’ hitmaker.

Gregg was laid to rest close to his late brother Duane, who died in a motorcycle accident in 1971.

Meanwhile, Cher took to Twitter to pay tribute to her late husband – with whom she had son Elijah Blue, 40.

In a series of tweets, she wrote on the social media site: "2day we were with our beloved Gregory, tomorrow we say goodbye. He was shy.He Was a KIND,LOVING man.The Sadness is immeasurable 4 all …

"Gregory’s children are AMAZING. We Spent hard day,Then went 2 Gregory house. We reminisced & watched Set.I’m so proud of em…THEY’RE ALLMANS …

"Final goodbye to a Musical Genius 🕊He was, sweet, shy,Loving, man,AND a mystery to all of us at times. He had demons & he fought them.We [love]d Him (sic)"
