According to People magazine, Paltrow is very upset by the story that she made negative comments about Americans.
The star explained that she never criticized her homeland. The Shakespeare in Love star said, "First of all I feel so lucky to be American. When you look at the rest of the world, we’re so lucky."
Paltrow, 34, has been blasted by the American press after an article appeared in the Portugese publication Diario De Noticias. The actress was quoted as saying that the English are more intelligent and sophisticated than the Americans.
Paltrow, who lives part-time in London with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, added, "I definitely did not say that I think the British are more intelligent and civilized than Americans. I am a New York girl, that’s how I always think of myself and see myself."
The two stars are the parents of two children, Apple, 2, and Moses, 7 months. Paltrow added that she was never interviewed by the Portugese publication, but that she had given a press conference in Spanish.
