Halle Berry to Star in Class Act

Halle Berry has inked a deal to star in the film Class Act.

According to Variety, Berry will star in the DreamWork Pictures production.  Screenwriter and director Doug Atchison has been brought on board to bring the true life story to the screen.

Berry, 40, will play Tierney Cahill, a teacher from Nevada.  Cahill entered the race for Congress in 2000.  Her sixth grade students helped with her campaign.  Though she didn’t win the race, she earned 35% of the popular vote.

In an out of ordinary move for Hollywood, Berry was selected to play Cahill, who is a white woman.  The projects producers felt that it was more important to find the right actress for the role rather than the right white actress.

Filming for Class Act will begin in May or June, 2007.
