Harvey Weinstein to relaunch Charles James label

Harvey Weinstein has confirmed that his company will be relaunching the defunct fashion brand, with his wife Georgina Chapman taking on the role of co-creative consultant.

Harvey Weinstein will relaunch the defunct Charles James label.

The Miramax co-founder has confirmed that the Weinstein Company have agreed to license, with an option to buy, the dormant luxury fashion brand from the late courtier’s estate with Harvey’s wife, Marchesa co-founder and designer Georgina Chapman, taking on the role of creative consultant to the brand.

In a statement Weinstein said: ”Charles James was one of the most incredible couturiers in the history of fashion and this label deserves to be a household name in the same ranks as Chanel, Dior and Oscar de la Renta.

”There isn’t a single designer in high fashion who wouldn’t name him as a major influence. We are beyond thrilled to be spearheading the revival of this brand and bringing it back to the world’s finest retailers.”

Georgina – whose brother, Marchesa CEO Edward Chapman, will assist her in her duties as creative consultant of the brand – admitted she was excited to begin working on the label following the Met Gala in New York City on Monday (05.05.14).

She said: ”Charles James’ designs and gowns took everyone’s breath away at the Met ball. He’s long been an inspiration to me and everyone at Marchesa. We’re thrilled to help bring the Met exhibit to museums around the country and to bring the spirit and style of Charles James back into the fashion marketplace.”

James’ work is currently being celebrated at an exhibition at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was feted at the fashion event earlier this week.
