Heidi Klum’s wild new jewelry

Project Runway host debuts Wildlife jewelry collection.

Project Runway host and fashionista Heidi Klum is launching a new collection of jewelry called Wildlife for home shopping company QVC, reports Coco Perez.

Klum’s Wildlife collection promises to be fun and funky, with large, chunky costume jewelry instead of upscale fashion accessories.

"All of the pieces are statement pieces. The only reason to wear costume jewellery is to wear something large – something you can’t do with real jewellery because it would be too expensive," the 38-year-old German beauty said in a statement.

The new pieces will make their official debut on the QVC network on September 8, to coincide with the Fashion’s Night Out event in New York City. The collection is expected to comprise of about 35 pieces, including necklaces, earrings and bracelets, with prices ranging from $30 to $200.

Wildlife is Klum’s second attempt at creating jewelry for QVC. In 2006, the model released a line of sterling silver clover-shaped pieces. The collection was discontinued in 2009 when French jewellers Van Cleef & Arpels filed a lawsuit, claiming the clovers were too close to their signature shape.

"We fought with Van Cleef & Arpels for over a year and a half, but we were small fry next to a company like that," Klum explained to WWD. "But looking back, I’m quite happy to be doing something new. I feel free now with this. I can reach more people with costume jewelry, the prices are great and I can make big pieces. It’s way more fun."

Observant fans will be able to catch a sneak peek at the new collection – Klum can be seen wearing pieces during episodes of Project Runway in the lead up to the big launch.
