Dame Helen Mirren is rumoured to be starring in ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’.

The 67-year-old actress could take on the lead role of famous chef Madame Mallory in the film adaptation of Richard C. Morais’ well-reviewed novel, which sees the dominant chef develop a bond with an Indian boy whose family run a quaint rival eatery 200 yards from her restaurant in France, according to deadline.

In the book, Madame Mallory begins to mentor the youngster – much to her reluctance – and eventually encourages him to open his own restaurant in Paris.

The DreamWorks-produced adaptation will be directed by ‘Chocolat’s Lasse Hallström – who has also worked on ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’, ‘My Life as a Dog’ and ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ – and also has the likes of Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey on board as producers.

DreamWorks is yet to announce the supporting cast for ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’, but confirmed filming will kick off in autumn.

Mirren previously earned an Oscar for her portrayal of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II in biopic ‘The Queen’.

She can next be heard in Disney-Pixar’s ‘Monsters, Inc.’ prequel, ‘Monsters University’, voicing university headmaster Dean Hardscrabble.
