Hermès launches Chinese brand

Hermès launches a new luxury brand in China.

French luxury group Hermès launched a new and completely autonomous brand yesterday (September 16) in Shanghai.

The Shang Xia brand was created in China and the company hopes to distribute it internationally.

This new brand risks being influenced by French style as it is part of French group Hermès. It was launched in a prestigious shopping centre in the heart of Shanghai, alongside major international luxury brands including Qeelin jeweller and the brand Shiatzy Chen.

Founder Jiang Qiong-er commented that this new brand brings designs from the East to the West.

Quionga-er, formerly of Arts Decoratifs in Paris, wanted to "create a world inspired by Chinese style," giving a second life to traditional skills with contemporary design. She started an adventure that lasted three years, crisscrossing the country to find these skills.

Shang Xia means "above, below" and the collection is simple and uncluttered, providing great cashmere and felt coats, among others. It will also provide handbags and even porcelain tea sets.
