Honey from the rooftops of Berlin

German hotel cultivates its own organic linden honey.

The Westin Grand in Berlin, Germany now offers guests the freshest honey available – hotel officials have started keeping four beehives on the roof, reports Routard.

Assisted by a professional beekeeper, hotel director Rainer Bangert takes care of the bees himself. The hotel overlooks the picturesque Unter den Linden (under the linden trees) boulevard, allowing the bees to gather their pollen from the linden trees of the nearby Tiergarten public park.

The four hives are capable of producing up to 120 kg of certified organic linden honey a year. The fresh honey is served to hotel guests with breakfast and also in ice cream.

The 400-room hotel, with two restaurants and a lobby bar, also offers a full suite of hospitality options, including a spa, on-site hairdresser, business center and limousine service.

Even those who choose not to stay at the hotel can purchase a pot of honey at reception for about $7 per 100 g.
