Hong Kong hosts family-friendly summer events

Region kicks of 2011 Summer Spectacular.

Hong Kong is the place to be this summer, as the region’s tourism board kicks off the 2011 Summer Spectacular, featuring a number of family-friendly events including the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival and the Summer Pop Live in Hong Kong concert.

The International Dragon Boat Races take place June 17 to 19. Top competitors from Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taipei and Thailand take to the water in long, stylized boats to race for the finish line. The festival will also include local dragon boat races, which pit various professional bodies, schools and communities against one another.

Taking place at the end of August, the Summer Pop concert will bring together some of the biggest names in local entertainment. Families will also want to schedule time for the Pixar: 25 Years of Animation exhibit at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Open now, the exhibit runs until July 11.

The Summer Spectacular features many more events, performances and opportunities for shopping before it wraps up on August 31.
