Last Friday (January 22), stars came together for Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief. According to People, almost $57 million American has been raised so far, setting a record for the most funds raised during a telethon.
Hope for Haiti Now, a collection of songs performed during the evening, has become the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history.
George Clooney organized the telethon with the support of some of Hollywood’s biggest names. It was a two-hour star-studded affair featuring musical performances along with calls for people to donate money to help Haitians affected by the powerful earthquake that rocked their country on January 12.
The incredible amount of money collected during this event will be divided among Oxfam America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Program, Yéle Haiti Foundation and the Clinton-Bush Haiti Foundation.
Donations will be accepted for the next six months.
Some of the most popular artists today got together to sing for the cause, including Bono, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige.
