Inspiration Behind Coldplay’s Music

Chris Martin admits that he and his band are strongly inspired by other people’s music.

During an interview on the Borders Internet site, the lead singer from Coldplay, Chris Martin, humbly confessed that members from his band were "the world’s worst—but most enthusiastic—plagiarists."

For example, Martin cited a song by the group Blur, entitled Sing, and admitted that he wanted to copy or at least deeply draw inspiration from the piece, to conjure up some creativity towards Coldplay’s new songs.

He explained, "We’ll try and copy anything but tend to fail, so we come up with something…that sounds like us—only through trying to sound like somebody else."

The revelation comes somewhat as a surprise, since the group had commented up until now, that they had been searching for an entirely new sound for their latest album, Viva la Vida or Death and all His Friends.
