Among the events that have marked the music world in the past 10 years, the editors of Billboard magazine deemed the launch of the iPod onto the market as one of the most monumental and revolutionary in the industry.

The birth of the mp3 player even surpassed the freak death of King of Pop Michael Jackson, who died on June 25, just weeks before he was to kick off his This Is It concert series in London, which was intended to be the last shows of his career.

In third position is another event that has changed the face of the music world; the invasion of reality talent shows such as American Idol, where new stars are discovered on television, attracting millions of viewers. Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood turned into superstars, thanks to American Idol, while England gave us Leona Lewis and Britain’s Got Talent‘s most recent celeb, Susan Boyle.

The Billboard list also highlighted Radiohead’s method of distributing their last disc, In Rainbows, where buyers can negotiate the amount they want to pay to download the album. This way of connecting between a group and their fans will also change the way albums are sold.
