Iron Maiden singer to the rescue

The Iron Maiden frontman flies stranded tourists to Brussels.

The singer of heavy metal group Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, is enjoying a second career as a commercial airline pilot. He repatriated about 200 tourists who were stuck in Egypt due to the ash cloud.

Dickinson flew tourists from the airport in Hurghada, Egypt to Brussels.

The 52-year old rocker works for charter airline company Astraeus. He serves as first officer on Boeing 737s flying between Britain and holiday destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

He says he is only doing his job. He and other pilots have been called upon to help tourists get home. They have been stranded by the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano that is  floating around Europe.

In the past, Dickinson was quoted as saying: "It’s a great job. Nothing else compares."

During Iron Maiden’s 2008 Somewhere Back in Time Tour, Dickinson piloted the tour plane, an Astraeus 757.
