Is Wheat Behind Diabetes?

Wheat consumption may contribute to the development of type 1 diabetes.

According to Canadian researchers, an abnormal immune response to wheat protein may contribute to the development of type 1 diabetes, reports Medline Plus.

Their study, conducted among 42 people living with type 1 diabetes, found that nearly half of them had an abnormal immune reaction to wheat.  The researchers also identified genes that were associated with this abnormal reaction.

The study results were published in the August edition of Diabetes journal.
