Italy was voted the most romantic destination in the world, according to 33 percent of respondents to a recent poll by Skyscanner, a website for finding cheap flights. Rounding out the top three most romantic countries, France came in a distant second with 19 percent, and the Caribbean with 9 percent.
With more than 1,000 respondents voting, Spain and Greece tied for fourth place with 4 percent each. Thailand and the U.K. trailed with 3 percent each. And rounding out the bottom three of the top ten most romantic countries: South Africa, Austria, and Croatia – all tied with 2 percent of the vote each.
When asked about the ideal spot for a marriage proposal, the top five places respectively were: gondola in Venice, Eiffel Tower in Paris, Spanish Steps in Rome, under the stars on a camping trip in Scotland, and the Empire State Building in New York.
