When the Californian band announced last May that they were taking a one-year break, Flea decided to return to school to study a subject he knows quite well: music.
When asked why he’s been inspired to study Bach and music theories after he’s become a huge success in the music industry, the bassist replied, "Music is made up out of these building blocks. Studying how these blocks go together and what they consist of and the math of how it works — it’s all the same stuff; it’s just different aesthetics that we’re talking about."
Flea, whose real name is Michael Peter Balzary, once studied at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, but he had to quit due to financial reasons. Now, he’s going for his bachelor’s degree at the University of Southern California.
