Jacob Markstrom traded to Devils

Jacob Markstrom’s name has been linked to that of the New Jersey Devils for several months now.

But today, the deal finally went through.

According to Frank Seravalli on Twitter, the Flames have finally traded the goaltender to the Devils.

Earlier this week, Renaud Lavoie said on BPM Sports that there would be some big deals announced in the next few days.

In the end, he was right.

Let’s break down the transaction a little.

The Devils struggled last season because the goalies in front of the net weren’t getting the job done.

Tom Fitzgerald made sure to bring in an experienced goaltender to solve that problem.

The Devils acquired Jake Allen at the last trade deadline… But few expected him to be New Jersey’s number-one goalie next year.

It makes sense.

At this point, it’s worth noting that the transaction could have an impact on the Montreal Canadiens.

Remember that if Jake Allen played 40 games in 24-25 with the Devils and the team qualified for the playoffs, the conditional 3rd-round pick sent to Montreal in the deal would automatically become a 2nd-round pick.

Unless Markstrom gets injured, we can forget about that scenario.

More details to come…
