Janet Jackson announces North American tour dates

Pop star asked fans to vote online to select 35 cities for performances.

Pop star Janet Jackson, 44, who had been forced to cancel several shows on her last tour in 2008 due to recurring vertigo associated with migraines, is back on the road.

Last November, she appealed to fans to help her choose the 35 cities for tour stops, and on Monday announced the first North American tour dates.

For the moment, in Canada, only Toronto has managed to win enough fan votes and the tour will stop at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts on March 12.

The North American leg of the Janet Jackson Number Ones, Up Close and Personal tour kicks off March 4 with her first show in Houston, Texas, ending April 23 in Las Vegas.

The singer, who could easily fill large stadiums, has opted for smaller venues to be closer to the public. Jackson will perform songs from her roster of 35 number 1 global hits on her latest album Number Ones.
