Jay-Z has been president at Def Jam Records since 2005, but People reported that the rapper will be pulling out at the end of the year.
Jay-Z stated, "Now it’s time for me to take on new challenges. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to build upon the Def Jam legacy."
This decision will permit Jay-Z to spend more time with his girlfriend Beyoncé Knowles. When his contract expires at the end of the year, Jay-Z will continue to record his music with Roc-A-Fella at Def Jam.
While Jay-Z headed Def Jam Records, many popular albums were launched by artists such as Rihanna and Kanye West.
