Jean Paul Gaultier’s farewell to ready-to-wear

Jean Paul Gaultier paid tribute to his fashion editor friends in his final ready-to-wear catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week this weekend.

Jean Paul Gaultier paid tribute to his fashion editor friends in his final ready-to-wear runway show.

The French-born designer – who announced he was putting an end to the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear departments of the Parisian-based brand earlier this month – sent models down the runway channelling the five famed fashion figures iconic looks.

According to Telegraph.co.uk, the 62 year old replicated the images of prolific editors who have championed his work.

The looks of French Vogue’s Emmanuelle Alt, Italian Vogue’s Franca Sozzani, US Vogue’s Grace Coddington, former French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld and British fashion journalist Suzy Menkes all made an appearance on the catwalk.

The elaborate farewell show also featured a mock beauty pageant, of which model Coco Rocha was crowned the winner.

The legendary designer recently revealed he wanted to put a stop to the collections in order to focus his attention on the label’s fragrances, haute couture and other unspecified projects.

He previously said: ”After more than 38 years spent producing men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, it seems to us that the time has come to stop some of our activities and to concentrate principally on the development of the haute couture, of perfumes and to certain collaborations that I have not yet had time to explore.

”For some time, I have found true fulfillment in working on the haute couture and it allows me to express my creativity and my taste for research and experimentation.

”This is a new beginning, I will be able to express again my creativity fully and without constraints.”
