Ending all the rumours at a press conference yesterday (September 22), Ryan Seacrest officially announced Lopez and Steven Tyler as new judges for the upcoming season of American Idol.
Executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, defended Lopez and made fun of the rumours: "I said to Jennifer today, we heard that she only likes yellow M&Ms," he said. "I’m thinking, ‘Who’s going to pick them all out for her?’ She said, ‘No, where did that come from?’".
An executive for Fox, Mike Darnell, said: "I can tell you from the Fox standpoint, the deal was not tough. There were no diva demands. It was a really easy, comfortable deal with both parties."
Lopez, who admits she will be searching among the contestants for someone like Michael Jackson, joins Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler, and the show’s sole remaining original judge, Randy Jackson. It will be interesting to see the dynamics between the judges sans Simon Cowell.
