Singer-songwriter Jewel has been enjoying a quiet life with husband, rodeo star Ty Murray, and their new baby, at their 2,400-acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas, reports People.
On July 11, the couple welcomed son Kase Townes after an unexpected emergency c-section left the new parents shaken, but happy with their “mellow and chill” baby boy.
“They always say, ‘Make a plan and God laughs,’ right?” said the 37-year-old Grammy winner. “We wanted a natural birth and I was committed to that. I studied hypnobirthing.”
During a routine check-up, a week before the due date, doctors discovered that the baby’s heartbeat dropped whenever Jewel had Braxton Hicks contractions, so they decided to opt for a caesarean section.
“I feel lucky to be pregnant in the modern age where they could actually tell he wasn’t well during those contractions,” said Jewel.
Jewel and Ty Murray’s 9-week-old son is named Kase Townes in honor of Murray’s best friend and Jewel’s favorite singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt.
“We had a name list a long time ago, before we were even married,” says Ty. “I like one syllable names.”
“It’s a strong name. We like it,” added Jewel.
