Jil Sander launches new collection with Uniqlo

German designer introduces new Uniqlo + J collection

German designer Jil Sander has partnered again with Japanese clothing manufacturer Uniqlo to create a new collection for their Uniqlo + J line, reports Elle.

Sander’s fourth collaboration with Uniqlo, the 2011 spring-summer collection, will go on sale in February in Uniqlo boutiques. With clean, simple designs, it is inspired by the wide open spaces and contrasts found in nature.

The advertising campaign for the new collection is set to debut later this month on January 26.

Uniqlo began as a major clothing retail chain in Japan and has grown to offer boutiques around the globe, including the North American flagship store in New York City, opened in the SoHo fashion district in 2006.

Sander first partnered with Uniqlo to create the +J line in 2009, ending a five-year hiatus from the design world. The +J collection is intended to provide the feel and appearance of custom-made clothing at the price and public availability of mass production.

Originally founder and head designer for her namesake fashion label Jil Sander, Sander left the company in 2000 over disagreements with the CEO of Prada, after they purchased a 75 percent share of the design house. After a brief comeback in 2003, Sander again resigned from the company in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences with the CEO.
