The film is the first inspiration from the popular doll line "American Girl".
The actors will join a cast that includes Stanley Tucci, Jane Krakowski and Glenne Headly, as well as the young Abigail Breslin.
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery follows the story of a 10 year-old girl who helps her mother (Ormond) to earn a living after her father (O’Donnell) loses his job. Cusack will play a nurse.
The production is set to begin filming on Wednesday in Toronto. Patricia Rozema will direct the project, and Julia Roberts will be a co-producer.
