Jodie Foster joins cast of Elysium

Award-winning actress joins Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp’s new sci-fi film.

Award-winning actress and director Jodie Foster, 48, is joining Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley for the cast of Elysium, a new sci-fi film written and directed by South African Neill Blomkamp (District 9), reports Deadline.

Following the Academy-Award nominated District 9, Blomkamp received the greenlight for a new science fiction film titled Elysium, with Simon Kinberg (Jumper, X-Men: First Class) producing the feature film. According to Blomkamp, the story is set in the distant future on another planet, will use “many socio-political ideas, wrapped up inside something that is like a Hollywood action film.”

Foster finished the production of her film, The Beaver, in which she also stars alongside Mel Gibson. The film’s release has been delayed due to Gibson’s most recent scandals, however The Beaver will finally debut on April 8.

Foster also stars in Roman Polanski’s adaptation of God of Carnage, a play by Yasmina Reza, along with Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly and Christoph Waltz. Filming will begin in Paris this February.
