Joe Perry Ponders a Tyler-Less Aerosmith

Joe Perry and Aerosmith will forge on without Steven Tyler.

Perry shared his thoughts following the recent announcement that Tyler, who has led the band for nearly 40 years, was stepping aside.

The Boston band gave their final show just weeks ago at the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 race.  Later, Tyler announced that he and Aerosmith were parting ways.

The past year has been particularly difficult for the group.  Several injuries, including Tyler’s pulled leg muscle and fractured shoulder from a fall during a South Dakota show, have taken their toll.  Tyler had also been admitted to a rehabilitation centre to treat his addiction to painkillers following an operation on his foot.

During an interview with the Las Vegas Sun, Perry said, "Steven quit as far as I can tell, I don’t know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don’t know."

It seems that Tyler isn’t even quite sure of his future plans.  "I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself — Brand Tyler," he told Classic Rock magazine.

Perry said that the band will continue making music without Tyler. "Aerosmith is such a powerful band, I mean it’s like a steam locomotive. You just can’t disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. We’re just trying to — at least I am — trying to figure out what direction the band should take," he told the Sun.
