John Galliano fired from own label

Dior to decide future of designer label.

Shamed fashion designer John Galliano was fired from his own label today (April 15), reports the Telegraph.

Christian Dior, which has a 91 percent share in the John Galliano label, had already dismissed the designer from his position as creative director last month, after allegations of anti-Semitism were made against him. Now he has been removed from running his eponymous label as well.

The in-house design team for the John Galliano label will likely take over responsibility for designing future collections, although some speculate that Christian Dior is now assessing the label’s long-term viability.

The designer, meanwhile, is due to stand trial in Paris this June for three counts of "public insults based on the origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity." If convicted, he could face up to six months in jail.

The trouble started for Galliano in February, when he was picked up by French authorities for allegedly verbally assaulting a couple and making racist remarks toward them.

Over the following week, more allegations were brought forward, culminating in The Sun posting a video of a hateful Galliano making drunken anti-Semitic statements and claiming to love Hitler.

"I completely deny the claims made against me and have fully cooperated with the police investigation," Galliano insisted, not long after his arrest. "Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologize for my behavior in causing any offense."
