Johnny Depp receives make-up award

Johnny Depp joked about how ”ridiculous” he looked in his films when he picked up the first-ever Distinguished Artisan honor at the Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild Awards on Saturday (02.15.14)

Johnny Depp has been honored by the Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.

The 50-year-old actor received the first-ever Distinguished Artisan award at the ceremony on Saturday (02.15.14) thanks to his appearance-altering roles in movies such as ‘Edward Scissorhands’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and joked about how ”ridiculous” he has looked over the years.

After clips were shown of his work, he told the audience at Paramount Studios theater in Los Angeles: ”This is a great honor, but glancing up at the screen I realize what a ridiculous thing I’ve done.

”I mean seriously, why do they still give me jobs? I’ve done a lot of things…I should probably apologize for a few, but I won’t.”

The ‘Lone Ranger’ star went on to say how much he liked having his face molded in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’.

He said:”I found, oddly, that I liked being encased in all of that stuff. I try something different each time as an actor with the amazing help of make-up artists who have made my whole career.”

Among those also recognized at the awards – which returned after a 10-year hiatus – were the hair and make-up teams from ‘Dallas Buyers Club’, ‘Behind the Candelabra’, ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘American Hustle’ and ‘Breaking Bad’.
